We Live Here…

Yikes…Zy’s still months away from arriving and we’re already getting infrequent with the updates. Bad me.
See that photo above? Nope – it ain’t from your friendly tourism board or some website, Mabel took that one during our recent (well, April 29-30, so semi-recent I suppose) visit to Yosemite. Pardon the coarse vernacular but holy crap what a place. It’s practically impossible to visually communicate the scope of the place – it’s simply that astounding. This particular vista point overlooks El Capitan (left side) and Half Dome (right side) along with Bridalveil Falls, “whoa” falls short to put it simply. We spent two days exploring the park and while we managed to see quite a lot we barely touched the surface of the natural wonders that are only hours away. You can check out more photos of our trip here.
No news is good news as far as Zy’s progress. Mabel went to the doctor for more basic tests and everything is fine. I’ll say one thing – if I was dealing with nausea and cravings for weeks at a time I’d be a hell of a lot crankier than Mabel has been. The fact is that as tough as men try to portray themselves we’d be whining a lot more than women do. Sucking up? Perhaps. But suffice it to say that I’d much rather be on this side of the parenting coin. For those in the baby industry (and it *is* an industry) I have a question: How much STUFF is really needed to procreate? I mean come on, warmed baby wipes? Are you people insane? Useless tchotchkies and I have a long and comfortable history but even I can resist the temptation for the hundreds of obscure baby products.
Sure, I say that now. You guys can stick my face in it in a few months.
Summer is upon us (or at least a strong facsimile of it) with sunny skies and temperatures in the 80’s this weekend. Very much an improvement over the rainy stuff we had for March. Ugh. Statement of the blindingly obvious: wearing a full leather suit (black no less) in nearly 90 degree sunny weather = hot. I was a little punchy and thirsty after my Sunday ride. Water is good.
• Doom:
I’m not proud. Was it good? Not in the well acted / well written / logically executed definitions, no. But insofar as presenting the in-game experience on a screen it was pretty good. The Rock was…well, he was the Rock I suppose. He does a good tough guy soldier type and the twist was about as much of a surprise as you can expect in the genre.
• Network:
Amazing. A 20+ year old movie that accurately predicted the “it bleeds, it leads” mentality of TV news. The ratings and demographics obsessed entertainment industry that we tolerate today was not always based on appealing to the lowest common denominator. When the “Daily Show” passes for insightful reporting and investigative reporting is a quaint memory something is wrong in the world. Howard Beale had it right in spirit, but so few of us are willing to open up that window. “Mad as hell” indeed. Watch this movie.
• Artie Lange: It’s the Whiskey Talkin’:
Not sure, really, since I feel asleep. Guess that suffices as an indication of how entertaining his act was. One-liners and drinking references made this the equivalent of a frat guy doing stand up and doing an ok job of it. Just ok. I prefer Dane Cook or Mitch Hedberg.
Well, this latest update should also add the ability for reader feedback – let’s hear it!
