A picture of my new cake up there!
Yes, it’s Mabel. I am invading Al/Porrada’s Blog this week. I’m not much of a writer/blogger, and I like to use slashes a lot in my commentary – so bear with me. I had to take a moment to write about my husband, Al.
The story begins in a living room far, far away. It’s Saturday night/Sunday morning, 12:30 A.M. We were supposed to go to Jen and Barry’s house for a pumpkin carving party on Sunday for which I wanted to bake a cake. Well, I had gotten the ingredients a few hours earlier at the store, but, we sat down to watch a movie, so now it’s really late, but I really wanted to make that cake. Unfortunately, I discovered I was short one stinking egg. And as it was late at night, and Al I were both spooked from having watched the movie Zodiac, Al wouldn’t let me go to the grocery store and he went instead, for one lousy egg.
Not only does he come home with eggs (36 of them to be exact), but with an early birthday present for me! He got me cake decorating classes and a certificate for the supplies! I am not exaggerating when I say that this is the most thoughtful, intuitive gift I have ever received. You see, I’ve always wanted to learn to decorate cakes, and have even looked into taking classes nearby, but have never made the leap for fear of gaining weight. Al had apparently noticed me watching one of my favorite shows – Ace of Cakes – he noticed me trying so hard over 3 days when Oscar was practicing making a shark cake for Nicky’s first birthday – he remembered the cake I made for Trisha’s baby shower for Sarita…
It is such a wonderful present. It is something that I wanted, but didn’t know I wanted it when he asked me what I wanted for my birthday. I was thinking with my head – and he answered my heart. Hence, the title above – Best Husband Ever!
So, above is a picture of the shark that Oscar and I made.
Needless to say, that shark lived a hard life before he ended up on our plate.
But he was delicious!
Wish me luck with the classes!
