Sometimes you just gotta chill
Wednesday, March 8, 2006
In the space of the last week, both our little nieces have gotten sick, with one spending a few days in the hospital. There’s nothing that can make you feel quite so helpless as knowing a loved one, let alone a little baby, is sick and you can’t do a thing to make her feel better. My big sister was unbelievable – spending sleepless nights on a chair at the hospital while Ralph was trying to juggle work and an also sick Sara at home. Being across country and unable to do more than provide moral support really accentuates the distance between us.
Perhaps sympathetic sickness, but Mabel and I have also managed to pick up the flu bug that’s been going around. Meanwhile, the cat just does her cat thing. She naps, naps some more and then she gets some rest before going to bed. She’s never done anything more than sneeze now and then and I certainly haven’t noticed her sniffling into a tissue. Guess the pets know something we don’t…we can all use a sun patch to roll around in now and then.
