You know, Mabel and I were just in Nicky’s room watching him sleep and I can’t think of many things that just affect my more than seeing my kid curled up in bed.  It’s surreal to watch that little boy and think that my parents did the same thing.  He’s growing so fast (yeah I know…no duh) so these moments are really precious.

No, no pithy observation or commentary.  I just wanted to blab about that.

Movies du jour:

• Sherrybaby

Maggie Gylhannhelalwhateverthehellhernameis in a just-out-of-prison coming to terms with life bla bla bla meandering piece of ponderous garbage.  Ok, so it tries REALLY hard to be shocking (she’s nekkid again!), touching (look at her anguish about her daughter not recognizing her, waaah)…but it falls flat.  You don’t give a whit about her, her problems or the rest of the cast.  Yawn.

• The Departed

Marty Scorsesee, Leo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson – guaranteed stuff right?  Well…damn it I wanted to like it.  I wanted the enjoy the payoff, the twists, the interigue – but it just felt so forced.  Really, darn it.  The acting was great and the characters preeetttyyyy well developed (the Irish thing laid on with a trowel, we GOT it the first dozen or two times) and the script was clever.  But at some point it becomes an exercise in twists for the sake of…more plot twists.  It was just this far from being a kick-ass movie.
