Ok kid, let’s get some more stuff straight as we get closer and close to your arrival.  There are many things you’ll need to get the hang of and your Mom and I will probably split them up more or less along these lines:

(1)    Humor – Dad tends to be more wacky, abstract and (let’s be honest here kid) weird.  Mom is simply funny and happy at heart.  Pick up a little from each and you’ll be cool.

(2)    Cooking – Mom is far more methodical, patient and willing to consult an actual recipe.  Dad?  He does meat.  Meat on fire.  Fire good.  *grunt*.  Both Grandpas bring talent too – Oscar with the lechon (delicious!) and Al with those great Sunday breakfasts.  You’ll need to learn Cuban, Puerto Rican, salteñas (if you get ambitious) and American styles…plus Dad’s tomato sauce.  Give it time.

(3)    Skating – Dad will want you to skate, kid.  He might even push, cajole, encourage and badger you to learn.  He means well and trust me you’ll enjoy it.  Hopefully you’ll like hockey too, despite Dad.

(4)    Music – A tough one, Mom and Dad like some stuff in common, other stuff no.  Try to have an open mind.

(5)    Dancing – Let’s face it, no matter what we do we’ll look like complete idiots to you, so do you own thing. Just DO it.  Enjoy yourself – nobody will ever remember if you were good or not, but you’ll remember if you didn’t try.
