Journey to Big Sur

After having a BLAST at the Keith Code school at Laguna Seca on Monday (waiting to get some images so I can post up THAT story) there was a week of rainy and cold days on tap. Mabel and I saw a nice townhouse on Thursday and in light of the stress of starting our home search and dealing with the mortgage it seemed like a great idea to take advantage of the nice weather and head out on a mini roadtrip. We got an early start and headed down to the mortgage broker to do a load of paperwork and then headed up 17 towards Santa Cruz. We ended up in Monterey for a nice persian lunch (kabobs, yum!) then decided to keep on rolling down Highway 1. No matter how many zillions of times I see it, the curves, the cliffs, the ocean…never fails to utterly boggle the mind. We ended up at the Café Kevah at Nepenthe for a lovely little snack on a fantastic hillside. Check out the photos (I spread them around the artsy and us sections). What about my usual ride du jour post? Yeah, I got some riding in too…it *is* the weekend after all.
New Thing (If I remember) – Our Netflix reviews of the week:
• Battlestar Galactica Season 2 Disc 1:
Take the great story lines of the first season and add what appears to be a nice budget increase – so better (and more!) effects. Very cool.
• Purple Rain:
Ok. Amazing sountrack. One of the best ever. I’d put it easily into the top ten of the 1980’s, if not the top three….but holy crap was the acting that bad way back when? Mabel and I will be taking splinters out of our butts for weeks as a result of that wooden acting. Ugh.
• Todo Sobre mi Madre
We were really looking forward to seeing this Oscar winning movie from Pedro Almodóvar but it wasn’t as good as I expected. For me, the plot devices were a little predictable which made the foreshadowing both redundant and melodramatic.
