It’s silly, really.  We live about an hour away from one of the most recognized and vibrant cities in the world and we’ve probably been there less than a dozen times.  You know how that goes, a week goes by and then another and somehow those little things that life tends to throw at you come up and you just don’t bother.  Mabel and I decided to suck it up and just GO.  The weather was beautiful and we walked around Moscone for a while, enjoying the Zeum complex, the Yerba Buena Gardens and poking around Metreon.  Pretty amazing that within a single block there are theaters, ice skating, a carousel, kid’s museum and creativity center, gardens and bowling.  I’m sure I’m leaving stuff out too.  As I said, cool place.

While it was enjoyable to wander around all those things, our ultimate destination was theMOMA.  We had seen much of the Chuck Close exhibit previously in Miami, but there is much more to experience there.  A sobering photo exhibit of the 1906 earthquake, a collection of Matisse (also noting contemporaries including Mirò and Picasso), Mabel’s favorite Rauschenberg and a design and architecture exhibit that made us think of Shane and Oscar.

The tour-guide schtick aside, it’s always fulfilling to enjoy your little place in the world.  Days like today are what make life more than a blur of the mundane.
