Vacation….all we ever want?
Tuesday, January 31, 2006
It’s not just a song by the Go-Go’s, of course (and without bringing up the whole Jane Weidlin vs. Belinda Carlisle debate which shall rage on eternally) but the fact remains that our very existence is one of perpetually looking ahead to when we’ll enjoy brief moments when we don’t have to live our actual lives. Think about it. We spend most of our time working with people that we rarely know to any great degree and arrive home to those we love as tired, stressed and distracted remnants of ourselves. Meanwhile, it must be said, our pets enjoy pretty much a constant life. Simple, yes, but as far as I can tell entirely fulfilling cycles of nap, kibble, nap, play, litter box, nap, kibble and then some sleep to prepare for more naps. Seems boring in the abstract – until you look at your own schedule and see: meeting, email, meeting, conference call, meeting, email. Hmmm. So we look ahead…next holiday, next break, next weekend.
And then? It rains.
